If you are ready to contact your ex boyfriend after your breakup, what is the best way to do that? Should you just call him, or perhaps send him an email?
If you call, you need to be very careful. You can easily say the wrong thing, get angry, and you are right back where you started. If you do call, make the conversation brief, just touch base with him. It is usually best if you have a reason to call him. Perhaps to remind him of a friend or relative's birthday or some other event. It gives you an in, and can help you remain focused throughout the call.
It might be a better option to first write him an email. You can write as many drafts of the email as you need to, in order to get the words just right. It may be easier for you to get your point across and not get distracted by the things he might say to you. Also, if he is still not interested, it won't be as embarrassing for either of you. An email that doesn't get returned is easier to handle than having him dump you again over the phone.
If you have difficulty expressing yourself in writing, than an email may not be the best route. In that case, a phone call is more prudent. But if you do send an email, sketch out all of the points that you want to make. Again, if this is the first contact after the breakup, keep it simple. Don't pour your heart out to him in your first contact. Just see how he is doing, and try to leave him with the impression that you are okay and getting on with your life.
Before sending the email, have a friend proofread it. They are looking at it with different eyes and can tell you if it seems too desperate.
